| What
years were you a Ball Boy? 1954 and 1955. What courts did you look after, what age were you? 14 & 15 respectively outside courts / number one / centre court Did you enjoy the task and why? Extremely, it was hard work, but interesting and exciting Also, a chance to earn a little cash ! I met several Celebs. & film stars, actors etc, as well as the players themselves ! Did anything unusual/funny happen whilst you were on court? I “ knocked up “ on No. 1 and centre courts on two occasions, once with Jaroslav Drobney, and once with Vic Siexious. On another occasion, Lew Hoad lost patience with me for not responding to his request for me to move to the Inside of the linesman ( whilst on the backcloth ) – whereupon, he dashed angrily down court, physically picked me up, and unceremoniously moved me to inside the line! All this to the slow hand – clap of the crowd ! – Happy days. Which player did you most enjoy meeting and why? “Little MO “ ( FORGET HER REAL NAME ) Maurine???? --- She was a great player & several times champion and very. funny. But most of all, she was very kind and understanding to all of us ball boys, It was quite nerve wracking going on no. 1 & centre courts for the first time, ( large crowds TV. etc.) She always re-assured us ! Who is your favourite tennis player today? Have none Do you play tennis now and if so do you belong to a club? No Would you like to add any further information? We ball boys, felt like kings walking straight thru the long queues of spectators and the milling crowds !—But the long, itchy and very HOT grey trousers soon “de-throned “ us !
