What years were you a Ball Boy? My name is Pete Arends and I was a ball boy in 1947. What courts did you look after, what age were you? I was on some of the outside courts and one time on court no. one - but never made it to centre court!! I was seventeen at the time Did you enjoy the task and why? Yes it was truly a lot of fun - the journey back and forth and meeting with the officials and tennis players. Of course the special fruit pies and strawberries!! Did anything unusual/funny happen whilst you were on court? Yes during the time waiting for matches to start I was a soccer player so on the outside courts we were able to play tennis with our feet and a tennis ball!! Which player did you most enjoy meeting and why? One of the nicest players was the American Champion Louise Brough who made it through to the semi-finals I believe. Who is your favourite tennis player today? Roger Federer - he's has such an all around game and never seems to get ruffled - quite a gentleman. Do you play tennis now and if so do you belong to a club? Yes - I still play tennis and golf as I now live in an active retirement community on a golf course in Rio Vista, California and we have our own club and compete in a friendly manner with other clubs - doubles matches only! Would you like to add any further information? I would like to hear from any other old boys who might remember me - such a long time ago and yet it seems like yesterday now that I'm talking about it!! From:
