This questionnaire was done over the phone

What years were you a Ball Boy?

1949

What courts did you look after, what age were you?

16 Years old and I was on court 13, 6, and Court 1

Did you enjoy the task and why?

Yes I did as it was something new and I had wanted to go the year before but I was always being put before Pinhead our Headmaster and I was off sick when the training started. I had always liked tennis.

Did anything unusual/funny happen whilst you were on court?

I tripped on the net on court 13 the first day. The match was between B. Paty & J. Drobny, if I remember it was a 4hr match that went to 5 sets which was the only game that was played on our court that day and we were not allowed to have a drink on court.

Which player did you most enjoy meeting and why?

L. A. Hoad (AUS) and K. R. Rosewall (AUS), both nice men who respected us Ball Boys

Who is your favourite tennis player today?

Tim Henman

Do you play tennis now and if so do you belong to a club?

Not now, but I played up till 1999 at the East Gloucester Tennis Club and I also played for Cheltenham Town

Would you like to add any further information?

Goldings had a list that I never seemed to get on, but I asked our Headmaster why I had not been chosen and this was because I had been in trouble, but I did make it to Wimbledon in 49.

I did try to get to Wimbledon as a player but the obstacles were high and the connections were not available. The standard was very high.
