GOLDINGS, which was on, the market when Last years
reunion was held, has been sold for £2.8 New owner is Irish property
developer, Eugene Flannery of London-based Harinbrook properties,
who plans to convert the buildings into private residential
apartments. Completion of the sale was expected by 31 July and if
planning consents are received, building work will commence
immediately.
The news heralds the end of an era for Goldings Old Boys, but many
will be heartened to know there may still he scope for future
reunions (including this year's on October) to be held there. Mr.
Flannery told the Guild Messenger: 'if the reunion could still be
accommodated at Goldings, I would not be totally against it.' He is
prepared to do 'every? thing he can' to allow this year's at
decisions take place but points out that decisions regarding future
meetings will lie with the, residents who will ultimately own the
Property Mr. Flannery hinted that a possible compromise might be to
hire a tent for future reunions so they could take place in the
Goldings grounds.
Mr. Flannery, who was originally unaware of Goldings' past links
with Barnardo's, said his overall aim was to return the beautiful
building to its original state. He would welcome further information
about building's history. Proposals for Goldings' redevelopment
include demolishing existing office accommodation in the Mc Andrew
wing and replacing it with a new building, demolishing the bungalow
buildings on the northern side of the main building, and building
new mews type accommodation within one of the walled gardens. The
stable block would also be converted to provide accommodation.
Buildings at Goldings listed as being of special architectural or
historical interest include the chapel, former stables, walls to the
north garden and the millstone in the verge outside Goldings Park in
North Road. Listed buildings consent is required for any work which
would demolish, alter or extend these buildings.
