OLD
GOLDONIAN FRIENDS MEET UP AFTER FIFTY
FIVE YEARS.
After
fifty five years Victor King met up with his old Goldonian school
friend Alec (Whizz) Willson. The meeting took place at Alec’s house
in Ivybridge near
Plymouth and for over two hours they
recalled memories of their time at
Goldings and the experiences of a
lifetime since then.
Both
were keen sportsmen at
Goldings and both were multiple
winners of the Victor Ludorum. Their participation in various sports
continued throughout their lives and today they share a common
interest in playing golf whilst Alec also plays Tennis to a good
standard..
They
are also both actively involved in DIY and will tackle
most jobs around the house and garden. No doubt the early training
they received in Barnardo's was responsible for this self-reliance
but it is interesting that neither of them continued with the trades
they started in Goldings. Alec now spends the winter months living
in
South Africa and the summer
in the
UK.
The
photo below shows the friends as they are today. Victor features
quite extensively on this site but to see Alec during his time in
Goldings, go to the Ball Boys section
and see the
picture of the Centre Court Ball Boys in 1953.
