Ball Boys
For some twenty years, Wimbledon Ball
Boys were Goldings Boys. Right from the very first Wimbledon after
the second World War, through 'till its closure, Goldings supplied
the finest Ball Boys ever to grace the courts of that famous ground.
We firmly believe that had Goldings been still open today, we would
still be the number one choice for this event.
Since Goldings closed, Wimbledon have
selected Ball Boys/Girls from many different schools and colleges,
but there is not one establishment that has supplied the number of
boys/girls needed with the right aptitude and skills. as did
Goldings.
Many Old Boys have some very good
memories of their participation in this prestigious event, and were
and still are proud to have been chosen as a representative of
Goldings at Wimbledon as Ball Boys. In the short time that we have
started gathering information, which funnily enough was instigated
by a young girls request for help with a school project, we have
received some very positive response indeed. In fact, I think it
would be fair to say, this has generated the best response to
anything that we have undertaken to date. The quest for information
this time has benefits for the web site and also this young girls
project.
Goldings had mixed reception from the
area in which it was situated, and, for a great deal of the time its
reputation was not the best it could have been. But our reputation
as Number One Ball Boys in the world still stands today.
I feel that it would be true to say
that during its lifetime Goldings most likely received more anti
support than pro support from most of the people surrounding the
school. This is an opportunity to show that we were not really bad,
(well, not all the time anyway), so come on, dig deep into those
recesses of your memories and keep on sending them in.
If
you were a Ball Boy, please fill in the
on-line form, alternatively send us your email address and we
can send the form to you. Even if you do not want to fill in the form, we are
still interested to receive your memories that cover part of the
Twenty Years that Goldings were the sole suppliers of Wimbledon Ball
Boys.
