THE GOLDONIAN

GOLDINGS PERSONALITIES

Mr. M. Brierley

Malcolm along with his brother Keith spent three years at Goldings from 1952 as students under Mr. Harold DeBoeck in the sheet metal work dept. Malcolm was also in the schools ACF and was also an accomplished bugler in the The Corps of Drums passing his test in 1953. Malcolm left Goldings in 1955.

Then In 1961 Malcolm returned to Goldings as Mr. Brierley to take the post of instructor in the Sheet Metal work Dept, for some boys this was not good as the new Mr. Brierley knew all the tricks so was not taken in by any of the boys.

In 1966 staffing within the department was about to grow in the Sheet Metal work Dept as Malcolm's brother Keith was to  join him in the  dept as a member of staff. Also in this year Malcolm became Lieut J. M. Brierley O.C, of the schools Army Cadet Force attending camps and Corps of Drums engagements.

After all the good news came the axe that Goldings was going to close. In the spring 1967 edition of The Goldonian we had been informed the Sheet Metal Work Department had closed down. Keith had left at Christmas for a teaching post at Chester College of Further Education and Malcolm went north of the boarder to Napier College of Technology in Edinburgh on the 1st March 1967. Then stork arrived In 1968 when their daughter Sarah was born, then in 1970 they had a son named John who became a social worker and is now a partner in a private care organisation while Sarah became a teacher.

In 1981 Malcolm and Ann moved to Coventry and joined the Tile Hill College to set up a PSV Body Building course. In the mid eighties Malcolm became the Head of School responsible for all the Vehicle Body Trades within the college. Malcolm then took took early retirement in 1997 and he moved to Hereford to a small village called Clehonger. For the last few years Malcolm  and his wife Ann have been doing short term fostering.

Both Ann and Malcolm have now both retired for good and are looking forward to going about in their caravan for six to twelve months during which time they hope to have a new house built in Tenbury Wells Worcestershire, which has been in the news with all the flooding that has taken place. Malcolm in his email wrote "The plot of land they intend to build on is elevated too high for flooding."

I see no ships just firemen in rubber boats,,,,
