Have you got a photo of Fredrick Sheppard
Mr Fredrick Sheppard

In 1934 Fred arrived at Goldings at the age of 14  to learn a trade and was placed in the carpentry dept. Then second world war took place along with the downfall of Adolf Hitler. After the war Fredrick. Sheppard was offered a place at a teacher training college. Fredrick had always stayed in touch with Barnardo's and was offered a post at Goldings.

Fredrick. Sheppard, joined the Goldings staff as Arts and General Subjects master in 1958 after two years he was appointed as Head of School in 1961 taking over from Mr. G. H. White who retired that year.

Mr Sheppard also took over as the stage manager and was responsible for the backdrops and scenery that brought the yearly school Pantomimes to life.

Mr Sheppard left Goldings with his family in August 1966 to take up a new appointment as Head of Further Education at a County Secondary School, where he is also to be Art teacher. He later gave up teaching to live from his paintings in their new life at Braunton, North Devon. whenever he held an exhibition he always insisted that a collection box be put out for Barnardo's and every year before Christmas he sent a cheque to Barnardo's.

Mr. Fredrick  Sheppard passed away on April 24th 2003 aged 83 years. One thing you may not have been aware of, was Fredrick Sheppard was a Dickies boy through and through.  He spent time in Dr. Barnardo's care as a child at Montgomery House, Epsom, not forgetting his time at Goldings training as a carpenter. No wonder why he knew all the old hiding places.
