The walk to Hertford, what year was it made a banned route and do you remeber why?

Johnny Leach at the start of the shortcut, John was meant to be sitting on the gate, but at 70 years old he decided to stand, you know it makes sense. He now lives at No 2 Poverty Street, on the corner of hard up bend, Northants. With the post code of Old Git. So if you have any spare money please don't send it to John send it to me as I live at No 1

The long walk or as the printer apprentices would normally have a bicycle it was a short ride in to work and lodgings that some had in Hertford town. I wonder if old Reg used to go this way on his motorbike.

What Goldings boys would do for a good apple, the route across is now gone along with the watercress. Did you used to scrump from these trees??

Under the railway bridge, the names are all gone so all that hard work scatching your names in the brickwork was all in vain

The other side of the track

Not me! What steaming pudle?

Every picture tells a story, but do I tell what he was nearly caught doing, now seen smoking a fag as if butter would not melt in his mouth and he did not wash his hands,,,,

The old pump house

How many times did a Goldings boy open this, was this the reason we were banned to take the shortcut???

Old boys route to Bengeo, I dont think I could run up there now, in truth I dont think I could walk and if I did how would I get down

How many steps to Bengeo?? 26 or 36

Who's House? A well known member of staff used to live in the house on the end, do you know what number the house was and who lived here? But be warned what you can see is not the truth. The house was sold recently for £139,000 so we were told in the pub. The house was purched in 1937 for £300, the owner was eaning £3.10shillings as a master. He even had to take on extra work as a housemaster earning 10 shillings a week extra.

Picture of the Scout Hut that we hold our reunions which is on the old shortcut

The old railway bridge which used to run from Hertford North to Hertford East station in the old days till a man from ICI closed it down.

The Millstream public house the first stop off on our walk to Hertford. In truth this was as far as we got for it was time for tea back at Johns

Inside The Millstream Johnny Leach proping the bar up, the corner seat used to have an old master visit every day for his free pint of beer as he had used the pub for 60 years. Johnny tried to lay claim to the free pint as it had not been used.

Barkingside Fete John Hunt and Brenda sitting on the Goldings bench outside After Care with Alan Newell. 10 Goldings boys attended the fete. The old school badge must be good as they all had one.
