Warlies,
Waltham Abbey,
Essex.

Warlies.

Warlies was opened 1928 as a girls training home it was opened to accommodate 53 mentally disabled girls who had been living in The Girls' Village Home - a segregation our founder would have deplored. This was one of the few areas in which  his successors defied the founder's principles. They were unwise. Warlies was not a success.

In 1940 it was converted into a vocational girls' domestic training school, then in 1967 Warlies became a senior mixed home. Warlies finally closed as a Dr Barnardo's Home in July 1975 like most of the old homes.
