The Village Home was re-opened in 1945 Miss. G. M. Fisher was given the task by Miss Chavasse of getting the village back up and running. Lt Col S. Atkins wrote of Miss fisher " I feel that at this stage Miss Fisher did her greatest work. The Village was a sorry travesty of all that it had been when she left it five years earlier. Became known as The Village Home with mixed accommodation. In 1986 the village had been reduced greatly but is still as attractive as it was in the early days though there are only about 44 children and young people living here as opposed to approximately 1,300 children when The Village first began. Its role now is to provide short-term places for boys and girls awaiting adoption or fostering or to help them return home to their natural families. New Mossford has 40 boys and girls and young people and provides care and education for severely handicapped children. The Village Home finally closed it doors in October 1991 with I think the battle won. For more information on The Village Home click here to view the unofficial Barkingside web site |
