Princess Margaret School

Princess Margaret School was opened 29th July 1966 ( Barnardo's Centenary Year) as a residential and day school for children with physical and learning disabilities. HRH Princess Margaret officially opened the school, which is open to present day. Some children and staff came from The Bruce Porter Home in Folkestone on 13th June 1966

In August 1972 it was reported that an extension built to the school wing at The Princess Margaret School, Taunton, which will allow for eighty physically handicapped children to receive schooling, thirty more than at present, is completed and will be functioning for the new school year in September. The extension, which will allow for two additional classrooms and a new physiotherapy room, is costing in the region of £33,500. Alterations are also being made to the existing buildings, which were opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, in 1966. The school will now cater for fifty residential pupils and thirty day pupils.
