The Old Vicarage was opened in October 1939 as a girls home, then in 1948 it changed to mixed accommodation for children up to seven years of age. The Old Vicarage home closed January 1951.

Information from the Coggeshall museum: The house was built some time after 1869 as the museum has a hand written specification for the property. Also from a later date a sale catalogue dated 1930. The photo (bottom) was taken it was thought at the time of the great war when it was still a Vicarage.
