Mittendorff House,
High Road,
Epsom,
Surrey.

Mittendorf House was presented to the National Incorporated Society for Waifs and Strays (Dr. Barnardo's Homes) by Miss Mittendorf.  The House was opened as a Dr Barnardo home in 1896. In 1918 Mittendorf House was re-named Clayton House, East Street, Epsom.

Records show that In March 1908, seventeen boys left the local school and were sent to Canada. Throughout the period of the Boys' log book, new batches of boys arrived and stayed a short while before being sent to Canada.

Every school day, boys were marched to the local school from the Mittendorf House and back. The boys had their own uniforms of navy blue polo neck jerseys and shorts.

Mittendorf House began as a home for girls and boys but by 1908 it only housed boys. In 1918, the house was renamed Clayton House and it closed in 1937.

A Post Office building stands on the grounds of the old home.
