Essex.

Little Bardfield Hall.

Little Bardfield Hall is a magnificent 15th Century Manor House nestled in a sixteen acre parkland setting today and is adjacent to a Saxon church. The grounds, and Little Bardfield Hall itself, have been used frequently in the past for a variety of film and television location work.

Little Bardfield Hall was taken over by Dr. Barnardo's in August of 1940 as a mixed home. In October 1942 it was changed to a home for children under three. This home was a special American foster home.

The home was officially opened in 1941 by Her Excellency Mrs. Anthony Drexel Biddle, Junior, wife of the American Ambassador to the Allied Governments in London, on Tuesday the 21st October at 2.45 pm.

Dr Barnardo's closed the home in 1945 at the wars end with the children being dispersed to other Dr. Barnardo Homes.
