Lilleshall Hall

Lilleshall Hall opened as a Dr. Barnardo's home for schoolgirls on 1st  June of 1940. On 22 April 1944 Lady Baden Powell Visited Lilleshall for a gathering of Scouts and Guides.

The massive structure of the hall was designed by Sir Geoffrey Wyatville, built in 1830 by the Marquis of Stafford , who in 1833 become the Duke of Sutherland. Set against the majestic backdrop of the rugged Wrekin and Clee hills, the hall stands in magnificent grounds from whose beauty came the name 'Lovely Lilleshall'. Lilleshall closed as a Dr. Barnardo home in 1947. Lilleshall Hall is Idyllically situated in over 100 acres of gardens and grounds overlooking the beautiful Shropshire countryside.

It was then opened to the public until, in 1951, the Central Council of Physical Recreation bought it and opened it as a national recreation centre. Today, it is world-famous as a sports training centre.
