Horham Hall, was opened 1939 as an evacuation centre for girls and young children. "Mother in a Million" Miss Kitty Wilson had charge of 30 children in this home during the war years. Horham Hall closed in  August 1945 at wars end.

Miss Kitty moved on to Bardfield Hall, Great Bardfield where she met Stanley and were married in 1947. Kitty was matron in charge of 80 babies. In 1983 Kitty was on "This is your Life" and was hailed "Mother in a Million"

Kitty died aged 87 on the 5th January 1991.
