High Close,
Wiltshire Road,
Wokingham,
Berkshire.
Tel: Wokingham 767

High Close was opened in 1946 as a home for girls and small children. In 1948 High Close became a school for children with learning disabilities. Then in 1967 High Close became a  home for senior girls with learning disabilities.

In 1972 some of the older girls attended Cartref Melys adventure training centre and according to Mr. Sawyer they had great fun sailing, camping, rock climbing and not to mention scaling the twelve foot wall. Some time after this they had their own built.

Today High Close is a mixed, non-maintained residential and day special school administered by Barnardo’s childcare charity in partnership with the school’s governing body. High Close is approved for 44 residential pupils aged from 7 to 16. At present there are 56 day and residential pupils.
