Glenfield Frith Hall,
Glenfield,
Nr Leicester.

Glenfield Frith Hall was opened in May 1949 as a home for boys. but by 1966 had been knocked down to make way for new buildings. This took place as Barnardo's were commemorating 100 years of service to children in need, the demolition of the old Hall removed a tangible part of the history of those who lived in it.

In 1966 the children moved to five new cottages called Glenfield Frith cottages, each housing seven children and two staff. In addition, there is an administration block and two games halls large enough to provide the children with ample space in which to let off steam when the weather is unsuitable for outside activities. Even in good weather the halls are used pretty well and we are, at the moment, gradually developing a workshop which will enable us to introduce such interests as car mechanics, clay modelling and pottery making as well as indulging in "do it yourself" activities. During

The buildings are surrounded by some nine acres of grassland, liberally sprinkled with very climbable trees, and there is an array of outdoor play equipment-swings, slide, climbing frame, etc.-on which the children can use up some of their energy. There is a small football pitch and a lawn which, in summer, is suitable for cricket, netball, volleyball, and other such games.

In July 1972, Montague House, Retford had closed down and some of the children came to live here at Glenfield.

In 1975 became a mixed home for children with learning disabilities. The home finally closed in 1991.
