FAREWELL AT FOLEY HOUSE

Many Old Boys will have happy memories of "Auntie Thorn", who retired at the early age of 55 from her post as Deputy at Foley House, Braintree, on 31st October 1972.

Miss Thompson joined the staff at Foley House seventeen years ago, and was one of the "Old Brigade", a real "Mum" who cared enormously for all her boys, and who was always willing to go the extra mile. A very forthright person, who would never hesitate to give you a piece of her mind if she thought you deserved it! Any boy in her care knew exactly where he stood with her, and there can be a great sense of security in knowing just this.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillips decided that she must have a real farewell party and managed to contact some of the Old Boys who had kept in touch over the years, on 28th October a splendid reunion was held at Foley House. Some of the Old Boys who came, accompanied by wives and children, had not met each other for fifteen years.

We all wish Miss Thompson a most happy and energetic retirement, and in the name of her colleagues and her boys we echo "Well Done".
