Deal opened June 1947 as a girls home. In 1954 boys were accepted. In July 1962, Deal became a branch home of Dr Barnardo's. Then in September 1969 the boys and girls were moved to Corner House. November 1973 became a holiday home for disabled children. Deal finally closed in October 1981.

Old PSTS boy Doug Amos was at the Clacton home, when Colonel and Mrs Dean took over from Mr Castle when the Watts Sea School Closed in 1949. The photo above shows the then girls part of the home.  Colonel and Mrs Dean, were very nice people said Doug Amos.

Old boy Frederick Andrews wrote: I was one of the first children at Clacton it had just been taken over from Grooms orphanages. Mr Castle and his family where in charge of the boys side of the road, my sister was on the girls side. We entered Barnardo's at the Stepney Home and was then transferred to Woodford bridge. I can also remember visiting Barkingside.
