This picture has the Arthur Runcie cut, Arthur was responsible sorry renowned in his day for the distinctive style that all Barkingside Boys had. His little salon was sited in a wooden hut by Mossford Lodge clothes store at the start of the orchard now gone and in its place Barnardo's HQ. Arthur was placed in the care of Dr. Barnardo's  as child. While we had our hair cut he would sometimes reminisce of his days in care and of the time spent at the sea schools. Prior to coming to Barkingside he used to cut the hair for the lads at Watts Naval School. When Arthur retired he lived in Scotch House at Barkingside.
