The Prince then unveiled the above memorial stone. "I unveil", he said, "this memorial stone on the second anniversary of the death of William Baker, in whose memory the buildings has been named, and I formally declare open the William Baker Technical School." A great volume of cheers followed.

Has anybody noticed the date is wrong, was it the 15th or 17th. History records the 15th was the General Election of 1922 confused you will be. All the documentation states Goldings was opened on the 17th November but the memorial stone states this was done on the day of the General Election. So what's the story? And why was the date not changed? The Conservative party won the election with 344 seats with 73% of the population turning out.

The date Goldings was officially opened by the Prince of Wales was by chance the second anniversary to the day when William Baker passed away on the 17th November 1920.
