At June Hird's recent retirement party from Marks and Spencer plc, she very kindly requested that donations be made to Barnardo's, rather the money being spent on cards and gifts. Altogether staff generously donated £300 and June and her husband Brian who was in Dr. Barnardo's care as a child presented a cheque to after care with their daughter Michelle. Brian 'Tod' Hird came into Dr. Barnardo's care when he was two years old in 1941 and spent time at Woodford, Euston Hall, Badgeworth and finally Goldings. Sara Roberts the then head of Barnardo's After Care accepting the cheque at the Goldings reunion. Corrections: Brian's was born June 1934 and went into care in 1939 aged 5years old after the death of his mother. Brian's nickname came from him always being on his own. This name was given to him at his first home and this name stuck to this day. Tod came to Goldings in 1948 and left in 1951 to join the army. He held the post of House Captain of Aberdeen at the time of leaving.. |
