Dear Frank
Thank you for your email here is a little of my
history.
I was in the sheet metal shop though but I did
not continue the trade after I joined the army as the Royal
Engineers did not cover that trade so I became a plumber. I spent
six years in the army and travelled around the world, Germany,
Singapore, Australia. I left the army in Feb. 1964 I then joined
British Rail as a engine cleaner. Progressed to fireman then to
driver. I left the railway for two years as a heating engineer when
I returned to the railway I became a guard. (union rep / safety rep)
at Clapham Junction until a medical problem took me of the trains to
a static job on the platform which I did until I retired in 2006.
As for my time at Goldings it was nothing
spectacular I was in the cadet force and it was a help when I joined
the army. My best mate was George Tangent we both went to Goldings
from the
Beacon School Crowborough in Sussex. My sister Margaret was at
the girls home
High Broom in Crowborough, till she went to
Barkingside
I probably spent more time outside the
headmasters study than most of the lads. I do not remember any thing
very exiting to tell you at the moment I shall go through my
mementos and try to jog my memory.
Please find enclosed the two magazines as
promised. It is nice to know that the old school is being
remembered.
All the best
E. J. Andrews
