The Goldonian Spring 1953

House Masters: Mr. Offord
House Captain: J. Watts

Again it is time to write for the GOLDONIAN. Since the last issue boys have left the house and boys have come in to take their places. Boys who have left the house are R. Thompson, D. Jones, D. Thurlow, J. Greenough, B. Tither, and we all wish them the best in the outside world.

Boys who have come in are T. Barnes P. Tozer L. Maitland, F. Watkins, P. Darling, and we hope all these boys keep up the high standard both in the house and on the field.

I will now record the main activities of the house:

FOOTBALL: We started off very well but since we have lost A. Blackburn, we have dropped down into third place, but we do hope to win the Cup.

BOXING: In boxing we are placed second at the present time but again we hope to win. Once again the cross-country is drawing near in which we all hope to gain the first place.

We all wish Mr. Offord a very speedy recovery and hope he will soon be back on his duty again.

In conclusion we wish Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley and family, the Rev. S. C, Corbett and family, Mr. afford, Mr. Sandmann and all the Staff and boys a very happy Easter.

J. WATTS, House Captain.

The Goldonian Summer 1950

Since the last issue of the GOLDONIAN, Mount  Stephen has welcomed two new boys to the house.

R. Harrison is all the way from Scotland, and E. Greenough who is another brother of our 'own Greenough brothers. He has a high reputation to maintain.

We have regretfully said goodbye to. Leslie Penn and House Captain and later School Captain. We all wish him well. Terry Greenough I am sure will prove an able successor to him.

Cricket: At the end af the season our First Eleven were third from tap. The Second Eleven only managed fourth place. But we are not despondent.

Football: Although it is early yet to prophesy, we have great hopes in our prospects. The First Eleven are holding their own, but I think we are going to miss Penn at centre-half. In the juniors we are certain of a good performance. I think Jenkinson has led his team very well indeed and praise must go to Jimmy Watts for his Contribution of goals.

Congratulations to Anstey an his promotion to. Prefect and my thanks to the other Mount Stephen prefects for doing their jobs without grumbling. I wish all Mount Stephen a very enjoyable Christmas, and a successful New Year.

Ta all members of the staff our thanks and very best wishes.

F. W. O.

The Goldonian Summer 1949

Once more the time has come to report the progress of Mt. Stephen. First of all we should like to welcome two new arrivals to the House, Brotherwood and Whybourne. They have already shown their eagerness to help the House in every way. We must congratulate Guy, Goode and Barden on being appointed prefects.

Athletics: We are very proud to have won the Athletic Sports by a wide margin of points. We are particularly pleased that we number among our ranks the Senior and junior Victor Ludorum winners. We heartily congratulate School Captain James (senior victor) and Taber (junior victor).

Swimming: Again we are pleased to report that we secured second place in the Swimming Sports, and missed complete victory by only four points. It was a most exciting finish, the decision being in doubt right up to the end. We congratulate Prefect Barden and Alsemgeest on winning Victor Ludorum medals. Another good swimmer, worthy of praise, is L. Brotherwood.

Cricket: We were not so successful in the cricket competition, but we have done fairly well. The second eleven are doing well, and their star bowler, G. Anstey gets about eight wickets in each match.

We wish every boy a happy, enjoyable holiday.

L. A. GREENOUGH

The Goldonian Summer 1948

House Masters: Mr. H. S. Randall, Mr. H. Petherbridge, Mr. F. Tordoff
House Captain: J. G. James
House Prefects: R. Gane, L. Greenough, G. Brown

Since THE GOLDONIAN was last published we have said good - bye to Prefect Crane. He was an excellent sportsman and a good footballer. We wish him every success in the outside world.

Congratulations to G. Brown on his new appointment as a Prefect.

More co-operations has helped Mt. Stephen to win the Good Conduct supper again. The dormitory is looking smarter and cleaner with its new coat of paint and its shining floor so let's keep it that way.

Now to sport, in which Mt. Stephen at the moment is only moderate. We came third in the athletics with 129 points, but special mention must go to our juniors for their fine performances. The next day we were the wooden spoonists in the cross-country, we shall have to do better next year. In the League cricket we are not doing so well as last year but the First XI have again reached the final of the Knock-out Cup and this year we meet Somerset. Water polo has not got into its stride yet because of the various summer activities and unseasonable weather.

Mt. Stephen won the Good Conduct Supper for June. Yippee! !

From Waterford to Poona,
Aye, even into Hoddesdon,
You'll hear it cried from far and wide
"By jingo! Up! Mount Stephen!"

M. Barden

The Goldonian Summer 1938

House Masters: Mr. H. S. Randall

Christmas is here once again. Through the medium of the School Magazine, we take this opportunity of wishing the boys of Mount
Stephen House "A Jolly Merry Christmas, and everything good for 1939." We also extend heartiest greetings to all other boys and
Staff in the School, and Greetings to all boys who have left us during the past year. May they, wherever they be, have a real happy
time. Possibly they may look back upon the good times they had, when at the Old School.

Our sporting activities will be duly noted elsewhere in this magazine. We did not particularly shine at any of the events, although
we were never at the bottom. Our position in most of the contests, was much the same as usual, third place. There is just one item
of sporting news that might interest some, that is, Mount Stephen have won the "Cross-Country Event" two years in succession.
However, as we mentioned before "Christmas is here," let us all get down to having a good time, not forgetting to help others to
have a happy time, too. So here's wishing everyone once again a real good Happy Christmas.

I wonder if they knew it was Christmas?
