The Goldonian Winter 1953
HOUSEMASTERS:
Mr. Warren This is the first time I have had the pleasure of writing these notes for the house. Since the last edition of THE GOLDONIAN the house has seen a number of changes. First, I must say that our new housemaster, Mr. Warren, who is also Somerset's housemaster, has settled down to his job and gets on quite well with the boys. Secondly, I must welcome three new Prefects, V. King, G. Kemp and G. Smith, who so far have done their jobs very well. The house lost a good prefect in D. J. Smith, who has left for a situation as a gardener. D. Ellis has also left for a job as a boat builder at Stanstead Abbotts. At football Cairns have done quite well so far, beating Somerset in their first match, 9-1. We have a number of the Minor team players, and a couple of the "A" team players in the house team. I will finish by wishing Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley, Mr. and Mrs. Corbett and the rest of the staff a Very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years. House Captain A. J. Willson |

The Goldonian Summer 1953
HOUSEMASTERS:
Mr.
Leslie
Warren Once again we come to the time when we have to write our house notes. We consider ourselves top house now as far as sport is concerned. We have won the Football, Cross-Country, and Athletics and we will soon know whether we have won the Cricket Cup. We welcome Mr. Leslie Warren, who is taking up a post as a House Master but we do not know whether he will be looking after the top house ("Cairns") or one of the other houses. We welcome new boys from the junior houses, V. King, M. Munson, J. Lloyd and G. Gray. We shall soon be considering making up some more prefects as we shall soon be losing H / C Alan Blackburn, better known as "Blackie", and D. Walker better known as "Whacker". We are very sorry to lose "Blackie" as he has accomplished a marvellous task in bringing us up to the top of the realm. He has played centre forward for his county several times and has also had a couple of games for West Ham Football Club. One of our Prefects, A. J. Willson, won the Victor Ludorum for the intermediates and honour for himself. (see below) We would like to give a vote of thanks to Mr. Culver for all the good work he has done for the school. And also Mr. Corbett who comes up regularly every morning to give a helping hand and we appreciate it very much. This term has been rather broken up with Wimbledon and other various activities. We all enjoyed the Coronation Festivities "(It poured with rain)" We have lost six good boys from this house-four of them have taken up their apprenticeship:- Wilfred Eeles, James Cunningham, Roy Addinall and Charles Piper, also William Hunt and David Boddy. The last two have taken up their situations in the outside world. We would like to thank the school-teachers for their help at Wimbledon. We would also like to wish the Headmaster and family and all the staff a happy and enjoyable holiday. And for those who are going to Dymchurch "Don't forget your umbrellas" We welcome Miss Mary Underwood to the sick bay and we thank her for the good work she is doing both for the school and the boys in general. Lastly, we thank Mr. Brown the Sports Master for his work in looking after the courts and the equipment.

The Goldonian Spring 1953
HOUSEMASTERS:
Mr. A. P. Culver I should like to congratulate all Cairns boys, on having done so well at sport this term. At football we were second from bottom but have pulled up very well and are now top. We have only one more game to play and cannot be beaten in the League.A s I write these notes the inter-house boxing is about to begin again. Last year we won the boxing and have a good chance of doing so again this year. We have got a good entry, nearly everyone having entered.W e h |
