THE
GOLDONIAN It is said that "time and tide wait for no man"; this is certainly true of this company. Since my last notes we have had the inter company swimming competition; the inter-company drill competition and the annual battalion inspection then the annual camp. Now after the summer holidays we are settling down to our winter training and sporting activities. Before we know we are Christmas will have come and gone and we shall have passed our eighth anniversary and will be looking forward to the light evenings when we can get out into the open for training. Taking the various events as they come; in the drill we came fourth, the standard in all companies was very high and we have the satisfaction of knowing that we did very well under difficult conditions with Cadets leaving us for situations and various school activities. We came third in the senior swimming; this again was chiefly because of our senior Cadets were at Wimbledon doing the duties of ball boys. At the annual inspection of the battalion the company did very well and put up a very good show on the march to and from Hertford. On the 26th July the company went to camp at Felixstowe for a week and except for one day of very bad weather and the feeding arrangements the camp proved to be very enjoyable. Training was carried out daily after morning prayers until 12:00Hrs. In the afternoons there were visits to the ships and the town, a good canteen and rest room were available and voluntary sport. Some of the senior cadets took part in a night exercise and enjoyed it very much. The annual camp is very helpful to our boys for they are able to mix with many other lads and they compare very favourably in training and behaviour with other units. The Headmaster who visited us on the Friday, the day when i~ poured all day, was agreeably surprised to find all the lads in such good spirits. We have now got well into our winter activities and through the continued kindness of the Army Kinema Corporation we are able to show a monthly programme of training and documentary films. C.Q.M.S. Kemp and Cadet Wainscott have been chosen to play for the battalion during the football season and we congratulate them. The boxing season ,starts on the 10th November and although we have lost many stalwarts including L/Cpl. Parry who reached the National Finals, we have 23 entries. This is a very good show and we wish them all success in the coming season. Five Buglers have passed
their bugle test. Cadets Brierley M., Brierley, K., Burgar, Crampton J.
and Darling and one drummer has passed his drummer's test, Cadet Mepham.
This is very gratifying for it shows great keenness to reach the standard
set by the The company will be on parade at Hertford on the 8th November for the Remembrance Sunday Service. I must take this opportunity of wishing all past and present members of this company a very happy Christmas wherever they may be and I shall always be pleased to answer letters from any old members of the company. Finally to all new members of the company I would say "Hitch your wagon to a star" in other words go all out to become a good Cadet and who knows you too may become a sergeant major before you leave. I almost forgot to mention our ex. C.S.M. Thomas Crampton who has left us. Good luck in your new life and I hope that the younger N.C.O's will reach your level. A. P.
