THE GOLDONIAN
2nd COY. 1st "C" BATTALION.
 HERTFORDSHIRE REGIMENT.
COMPANY NOTES

Since our last notes we have carried out a useful and instructive training programme during the summer term and have been able to put in more outdoor training in spite of the unavoidable interruptions of the Wimbledon ball boy fortnight and the summer holidays. We have now the services of Lieut. K. Whittaker who is on the teaching staff and who will take over command of the Company on my retirement from the A.C.F. in March, 1965. This is owing to the fact that I am well over the age limit laid down for serving officers. I know that the Company will benefit by this change and Mr. Whittaker will be given the full support and cooperation that I have had from all ranks over the past nineteen years.

On 5th July we entered a Senior and Junior team in the Inter Pre-Services Swimming Competition and both teams did very well as they always do.

This Company had the honour of representing the Battalion for the junior football season 1964-65 and have made a good start by winning their first match at Hatfield.

We have now started our winter training programme and through the co-operation of the Army Kinema Corporation are able to show a monthly programme of training and entertainment films. The night exercises are proving very useful and on the recent patrol exercise I was captured by a section of No. I Platoon, whilst I was umpiring the exercise! The monthly initiative tests have started when each section is given a difficult task to carry out under the leadership of its section commander; this type of training is very popular and it does teach team work.

On Friday, 4th December, we shall be celebrating our 19th. anniversary with fitting ceremony, not to mention the supper when we welcome our old friends and guests for the evening. A report will be made in our next issue of the School Magazine.

Although our numbers were down during the summer months we have now reached the 65 figure again, our average numbers over the past training year have remained at 70 all ranks.

I would like to wish all ranks a very happy Christmas and a successful 1965, and on behalf of the Company I extend these good wishes to all ranks of the battalion.

A. P. CULVER, Captain, O.I.C
