THE GOLDONIAN
2nd COY. 1st "C" BATTALION.
 HERTFORDSHIRE REGIMENT.
COMPANY NOTES

I was sorry that we were unable to attend the annual battalion camp this year which was for two weeks; this was unavoidable however, for it could have disorganized the whole of the School routine; perhaps we shall be able to attend the two weeks' camp at Dibgate next year, all being well.

We have lost many of the older boys since my last notes and I wish them all success in their new life. The strength of the Company is now sixty-eight, for a number of new boys have joined us and we shall now be able to build up a good Company capable of taking the place of the lads who have left and still contributing to the Battalion our quota of sportsmen, etc.

I would like to congratulate Cadets Kennedy, Bishop, Hoy, and Corporal Gee on getting in the Battalion senior football team, we also have a number selected to play for the junior team and I know that they will all give a good account of themselves.

Our winter training programme is now well under way and I would like to put on record my thanks to the Army Kinema Corporation for their continued co-operation in sending regularly each month training and documentary films as requested. Much can be learned with the eye as by other means and these films are a great help to us.

We hope to receive the help in training we so badly need for soon we shall be able to avail ourselves of the services of R.S.M Hutchins who is now established in the Battalion. I shall welcome him and know that he will be able to do much to bring our training up to a high standard.

The Company will be celebrating sixteen years' service with the Battalion in December. It was On the 4th December, 1945, that we formed with a nucleus of thirty-five boys; since that date 951 boys have passed through the Company and many have gone into the Services and are doing very well. It is heart warming to receive letters from many of these ex-cadets, as well as the occasional visit, and to know that they all have happy memories of their service in the Company.

In 1958 I should have retired from the Army Cadet Force having reached the age limit for officers, but each year I have received a further extension of service; in March, 1962, I am again due for retirement but it is fairly certain that I shall be given a further year's extension. When the time does come for me to retire I shall know that I have many happy memories of all the lads who have so wonderfully built up the prestige of the Company over the years.

Soon Christmas will be with us so I would like to take this opportunity of wishing all ranks of this Company a very happy Christmas wherever they may be and a successful New Year in their School and Cadet life.

I will close these notes with good wishes for the- festive season and the New Year to the Headmaster and family, the staff, our Commanding Officer and all ranks in the Battalion.

A. P. CULVER, Captain, O.I.C
