THE
GOLDONIAN IT HAS been very pleasant and useful to be able to have our weekly Friday evening training out in the open and to see our N.C.O.s giving instructions in the various training groups. Although our N. C. 0 .s' course which started in early May has been interrupted now and then it is very satisfying to see how this course is giving confidence and instructional ability to the N.C.O.s. This course should be ended by the time these notes are in print and I feel sure that I shall be able to report on the success and keenness shown by all taking part. We have a long period of interruptions from the start of the Whitsun holidays until the middle of August for many cadets will be doing ball-boy duties at Wimbledon during the tennis finals and immediately after that we shall be going on our summer holidays to Dymchurch or to home holidays. We shall be able to go to the annual battalion camp at Leek in Staffordshire from the 18th to 25th August and it is hoped that approximately fifty boys will be able to attend. I would like to express my thanks to the Headmaster and the School authorities for allowing us to attend; for I know that this period will interrupt the school and training schedules. The annual camp is a highlight in the cadet training year for it does enable us to get together as a battalion and much useful am! comprehensive training can be carried out. The annual pre-services athletic championship will be taking place at Watford on the 23rd June and we shall enter a Senior and Junior team, I know that this Company will keep up their good record of past years. On the 12th June, fifty boys will be going to the Royal Tournament; this is an event which is always looked forward to by all; for seeing the smartness and efficiency of all the military displays does bring out the importance of all working as a well disciplined team. Soon we shall have the services of Mr. J. Lee in an official capacity for now that his T.A. commitments are completed he will become an instructor and quartermaster in this Company. Mr. Lee has been working with us for a long time and helping in the School and with the Cadets, but until now we were not able to give him an official standing in the Company. During my holiday we shall be visited by Colonel Simmons, T.A. and he will be inspecting the Company during their training period; I am sorry I shall not be here to receive him, but Mr. Clarke my second-in-command will receive him.
