THE
GOLDONIAN I am always glad to be able to record the activities of the Company. It is a continual wonder and pleasure to note each time. that I write that although the Company often does not appear to be doing much, yet there is always something to record of the success in the various sports and training activities, etc., and a record of trying to give the best often under difficult conditions. L/Cpl. Parry reached the A.C.F. Boxing Finals which took place on the 28th March at Cardiff. Although Parry lost to a more skilled opponent I feel that it was owing to being over keen to beat his man that Parry was not successful. We have had to say goodbye to him recently, as he has left us to take a situation and we wish him good luck. At the Cert. "A" Examinations. in April, Cadets Allen Gibson, Roward and Edwards passed their Cert. "A" Part I and have since been appointed L/Cpl. section Commanders. On the 26th April a number of Cadets took part in a T.A. and Rome Guard exercise· and did very well in holding up the convoy and then assaulting the Home Guard defences. Many boys have been able to go to Broxbourne for the weekend camps and we have had C.S.M. Fox and S/Sgt. Crampton successful in the .22 Shooting. These two Cadet N.C.O.s have also been able to get in some .303 shooting We took part in the Annual Drill Competition on the 10th May and generally the standard was higher than in past years and we came fourth. We won the Junior Athletic Cup on 9th June. In the Junior swimming on 17th June we came fifth this year. Usually we are either first or second, but there are no excuses for the standard of swimming was obviously lower with our boys. We have the Senior Inter-Company swimming on the 1st July. So far we have never won this trophy; we have always managed to reach second place. I don't think we shall win this year owing to most of our seniors being on duty at Wimbledon. The Company took part in the local Coronation Parade and Service on the 2nd June and marched very well. We were honoured by being able to send L/Cpl. Howard to London to see the Coronation procession, etc. Howard was chosen to go from this Company as he was judged to be the most keen Cadet. I must not forget to mention the good work that Cadet D.McAllister has put in for the beautifying and comfort of the club. McAllister has spent much time and effort in decorating the inside and outside and it is a pleasure to be able to show visitors our club. Here I would ask any readers to send or give us any books or periodicals that they may have for the Cadets are great readers and I would gladly acknowledge such gifts. Our numbers stand at 116 and this shows a steady average of 90 Cadets since 1945. The looked for event of the year, which is the Annual Battalion Camp, takes place at Felixstowe on the 26th July until the 2nd August. A. P.
