Barkingside The Village Home was a great place to live, Barnardo's have always taken the initiative and have done what they thought was best for the child, but like most institutions you get some people who should never have been allowed near children due to their own hang-ups as a child. Most of the staff who worked for Barnardo's were there for the right reason. Above are a few memories from old boys and girls who were brought up in the care of Dr. Barnardo Homes and at some time ended up in care at Barkingside The Village Home. see links above.

Barnardo'sis one of the leading UK children's charities. They offer a wide range of support services for children. The website will tell you more about the work and how you can help.

Banana Bunch: is a MSN web site for you to chat to others who were in the care of Dr. Barnardo's. There are not many rules but please respect others.

careleavers reunited: Been in care? Need help or support on how to get your personal history of your time in care or just meet up with others like you. Logon and register name and home.

Colin Topley's web site: an old DBH boy who has created a web site giving a platform for debate; with the senders that supply the content.

Franks Pages: has information on Letchworth the First Garden City and a hole in the ground called the Blue Lagoon and other information you didn't want to know.

Goldings WBTS: had its own school magazine called The Goldonian. web site contains memories  of the old days. Please note this web site does not in any way speak for Barnardo's. Its purpose is purely for research and historical interest.

Johnny Leach: His first go at a web site with the help of a few friends that he has met since he got his computer. Johnny is joint manager of the Northampton Barnardo shop and a long standing member of the Barnardo Assoiation.

The Ragged School Museum: a unique history of the East End of London, and in particular of the Copperfield Road Ragged School and Dr Barnardo's old Cromwell Road School, also experiences of people living in London's East End.

Old Dr Barnardo's homes: Barnardo's opened hundreds of children’s homes across the UK from Thomas Barnardo’s day until the 1970’s. Barnardo's today don’t run orphanages or children’s homes anymore. This is a directory of all the homes that are listed and what happened to them.

Parkstone Sea Training: The last Dr. Barnardo sea training school which closed in 1964. The web site has photos and memories. The school was formed from the two sea schools of Dr. Barnardo's in 1949. The school was opened in 1951.

Watts naval Training School: After the death of Mr E. H. Watts his eldest son, Mr. Fenwick S. Watts, took up the work that had dropped from his father's hands. He managed thorough repair, furnished the institution from the basement to the top storey at a cost of several thousand pounds and handed it over to Dr. Barnardo's Homes as one of the most complete institutions of its kind in England.

Badgerwood can also help getting your story into print which is free. The cost is retrieved from the initial sale of book thereafter any profit is passed to you.
